The next step is to listen to them in the morning when you wake up. This will help you start your day on a good note. I've found that once you listen to comedians enough you start to look at things in a more humorous way than you did before you started listening to comedy. The goal is to transform the majority of your thinking from negative thoughts into positive thoughts. This new mindset will allow for a more effective reduction of OCD, therefore increasing the quality of your life, whether you have OCD or not.
It's also very beneficial to memorize some short jokes to tell yourself throughout the day. This can perk you up when you are down and put a little bounce in your step and a smile on your face. Here are some that I like, you may or may not laugh, but I did.
1.) Writing with a broken pencil is pointless.
2.) I wondered why the baseball was getting bigger, then it hit me!
3.) When a clock is hungry it goes back four seconds.
4.) The roundest knight at Sir Arthur's table was Sir Cumference.
Take action: What we learned here is that incorporating comedy into our lives by listening to it and memorizing short jokes is a little known, powerful tool. We really would be foolish not to take advantage of all the benefits that humor has to offer us. I would encourage you to go online and do a search for some short jokes and learn some of the ones that really make you laugh, then when you feel bad or feel like you are struggling with OCD, tell yourself a few of them. I promise you that this alone will not 'cure' your OCD, but it will reduce it by making you feel better and remember, OCD cannot exist in the same moment that you are truly laughing.
