How to Eliminate Negative Emotions
You are going to learn today how to eliminate
negative emotions through using the art of perspective.

Did you know that this tool is actually the key to insight?

Your insight provides you with self-realization, the ability to move beyond your negative thoughts and beliefs.

It is used by all good therapists, that is to ask a question to change how you are thinking about the problem… to see it from a different perspective.
You can use this technique when you are feeling irrational, angry or anxious about something that you probably don’t need to in actuality. The technique is great for making you think more logical, more insightful.

You have probably been in a situation where you felt totally upset, angry or frustrated and overreacted because of your emotions…am I right?

You probably also realized what you did a few days later and said to yourself, “I can’t believe I acted that way,
I can’t believe I thought that, what was I thinking?”

You don’t have to wait until a few days, weeks, or any longer to have this type of insight.

You can start the process by asking yourself questions Like these:

What would your best friend say to you about this situation?

How would you think, act or feel in this situation if you felt normal?

What would you advise someone else in the position you are in?

How have you successfully resolved a similar situation like this in the past?

These are just some of the questions you can ask yourself to gain perspective…

I know it may sound rather simple but asking yourself these types of questions really works!

You should make sure to take the time and write down the the answers and really think about them so the answers really affect the way you are thinking about your problem…

You may even want to make a two column sheet with your ‘before’ and ‘after’ feelings. The first column will say how you felt before and the second how you feel after using the questions.

here’s a practical example…

You are in a business meeting, not just any meeting but a really important one and you spill coffee all over
yourself!

Don’t worry it is only lukewarm.

You have spilled it on yourself and everybody sees and you feel really embarrassed right?

You might find that you feel some anxiety next time you are having a coffee in that same meeting.

So how are you going to go into the next meeting with some of these worrying thoughts you may have?  Maybe you are thinking “I can’t believe I did that,” or “Oh my gosh they think I am so clumsy.”

In this situation you can use the questions.

Ask yourself, what would my best friend say to me?

They might say, “Oh don’t worry about it, the other people have forgot about it already there is totally nothing to worry
about it.”

Or

What you would advise someone else if they were you?

You might say, “there is really nothing to worry about it the others in the meeting were only concerned because they were worried if you burned yourself with the coffee but by now they forgot about it since you were ok.”

So go through these questions.

You can really release negative thoughts and emotions by doing this.

You can use it however it works for you.

Feel free to make up your own questions that work for you, or
if you want use these and others you find.
